Discussion area impossibly slow

I am desperately disappointed by the response time on the long-awaited new website. For me there is something like a 10 second latency which makes this discussion area effectively unusable. I am astonished that whatever is causing it hasn’t yet been put right and since my subscription renewal is now due I am, with the greatest sadness (being Iain’s greatest admirer) about to withdraw.

I write this now purely in the hope that the designers will realise something very serious is wrong and lose no further time in putting it right. The message that we should all be trying to promulgate is simply too important.

Very best wishes to everyone, James

Unfortunately you are right James. It is also disappointing that there is no response on the user issues listed in this group. Are they working on the issues? If so what is the status and when are improvements available to the members?

Thank you Peter, it really is completely hopeless. For the record, before I finally sign out, I did at least get an email notification of your reply, but when I clicked the link I had to sign in again (unbelievable!!), and then found myself right at the top of the members area, from where I had to navigate all the way to this thread, with this extraordinary 10 second latency at every stage.

What an utter catastrophe. I despair. Farewell to you and all the great people here. What an opportunity missed to create a forum for promoting Iain’s all-important thesis.

What a terrible shame that the poor design web site has led to one of the more active members to leave. We are paying for more than advance notice of Iain’s presentations. This post had to be entered one letter at a time because it was slow in responding.

I found I could avoid the impossibly slow response to typing a post by composing it first in a word processor and pasting in the entire message.

    Hi James and others here,

I’ve recently joined the team as the technical support and backend administrator.

The site should be snappier now, please let me know if it’s still slow for you.

I’m working on various improvements and really appreciate the feedback and patience as we iron things out as much as we can.

    Thanks for you understanding,

    Armando

Thanks. Yes, it does seem faster in renewing and navigating, but trying to type a post is still a horror story. It just can’t keep up even with my slow two finger typing. Thanks for your help.

        Hi John,

        Great to hear!

Regarding the text input, it gets saved periodically in the background which blocks the input while that happens.

I’ll see if there is a way to prevent the hiccuping and speed this up.

Thank you Armando for your response. Glad someone with technical skills is finally looking into the speed issues. Good luck with your efforts.

It is heartwarming that I still seems to have access a month after my subscription nominally expired!

And yes, the site does seem considerably ‘snappier’ now. Funnily enough – I haven’t had any difficulty typing posts myself, it has was the dreadful latency before any action which was so impossible.

So, OK, I’ll renew for another year – I owe Iain much more than that for his inspiration and all he has added to my understanding.

    Hi James,

It makes me very happy that my changes have made such a big difference in speed.

And even more so, that you’ve decided to remain a member, which is hugely appreciated, thank you!

Warm regards and a wonderful start into 2023,

    Armando
