    Hello,

I am a new member here and have been diving deeply into Iaian’s work over the past year. I find it incredibly valuable.

So far however I have not come across anything that relates to the role of human sexuality, and the polarities of opposites that is manifested there. It seems to me that the kind of inner union that our sexual lives makes possible is a powerful conduit into all the activities of the right hemisphere. Connection. Betweenness, Empathy, and seeing the whole picture.

Of course sexual activity can also be a LH activity. Getting the result desired and so on.

I am interested in opening up a discussion on this topic. Maybe it already exists somewhere on the site?

I’ve always found the question of what (if any) qualities divide on the basis of sex interesting but elusive. I assume you’re thinking about femininity and masculinity. If we think of those as straightforwardly corresponding to receptivity vs self assertion then that would pretty much align with right vs left hemispheric functioning. But it is no less necessary for a woman to be receptive toward the gifts of the right hemisphere than for a man. Likewise both then need to be industrious in elaborating the ‘maps’ which can then be further processed by the right hemisphere allowing for better understanding.

I’m not sure the traditional femininity vs masculinity distinction does as much work as it did when traditional sexual roles were more distinct, common and generally agreed upon But I look forward to being shown what I’m missing.

What I am trying to explore with this question is more along the lines of the sexual experience itself. The sexual act. It is often something that can be a conduit to those RH awarenesses, for both men and women. Iain talks about how music, and poetry, and art and nature can all lead us there. But so far I havent heard him talk about how the sexual experience can take us there, if it is coming from the right place.

That makes sense. It is a state that lends itself to flow and, like sleeping and dreaming, resists a totally left brain approach. I look forward to following any further discussion.
