Correlation of right-hemisphere damage and religious fundamentalism found
The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has an article described here: https://www.psypost.org/new-study-links-brain-network-damage-to-increased-religious-fundamentalism/. In light of the hemispheric hypothesis, by which religious appreciation is more a right-hemisphere capability, that damage to that hemisphere should reduce it to toxic fundamentalism perhaps should be expected? Just as left-hemisphere damage can cripple linguistic capability, by this report right-hemisphere damage cripples religious capability. So it would seem to fit well.

New study links brain network damage to increased religious fundamentalism
Recent research found that damage to specific brain networks, primarily in the right hemisphere, is linked to higher levels of religious fundamentalism. These brain regions are involved in cognitive functions like reasoning, belief formation, and moral decision-making.
