You might find this video illuminating. Hoffman points out that a growing number of physicists now take the view that spacetime isn’t fundamental. This may ultimately have implications for physicalism, in that subsequent theories, perhaps within the field of quantum gravity, may be incompatible with materialism. (This is one reason why, in the comment you quoted, I used the qualification “physicalism, as it currently stands”.)<div>
